Luxury Bed and Breakfast in Lanchester, County Durham
The Old Post Office is a Grade 2 listed building, constructed in 1788 for Mary and Sarah Brown and is located in the centre of the village.
Another year began as we welcomed guests for New Year's Eve! We made a decision to remain open over the festive period and many guests were thankful to have such a lovely place to stay whilst they celebrated with their families and friends.
The Old Post Office glowed with a massive tree and lights twinkling everywhere and the log burning stove in the dining room was lit for breakfast each morning!
Why not join us next year? Be sure to book early as we fill up quickly and would hate you to be disappointed.
Autumn's Bounty - It would appear that this year has had a bumper yield from our 'Apple Trees'. I have therefore decided to help reduce 'food waste' this year and use this bounty to produce our own 'Apple Juice' for our B&B. This all sounds quite rustic but there is method to the madness.
I have discovered that there is an organisation called 'Growing Durham' that encourages the general public to look at healthy, sustainable food using gardens and other land to produce small quantities across several food categories such as fruit and vegetables, eggs, honey and some others.
'Social Proof' - Part of the Marketing Tools of Today
We all know that the internet has transformed the way we communicate with each other and all sorts of products and services can use them to engage with their audiences.
In most cases, there is the 'message' to be delivered linked to your marketing proposition and then there is the medium of delivering that 'message' such as press, posters or websites.
In Harmony with our Environment - Sustainability
What is sustainability?
Sustainability is based on a simple principle: Everything that we need for our survival and well-being depends, either directly or indirectly, on our natural environment. Sustainability creates and maintains the conditions under which humans and nature can exist in productive harmony, that permit fulfilling the social, economic and other requirements of present and future generations.
The Green Man
We have just said farewell to our first guests from Belgium, a family of five, It was their first trip to the North East and they visited Hadrian's Wall and Durham Cathedral. To make it more interesting I asked my friend Johnny, a previous friend of the Cathedral, of anything unusual the children could look for on their visit.
July 11th has arrived - the first day of the rest of our lives and particularly important because this is the first day that my wife, Pauline, enters the new phase of our working lives.
Semi-Retirement Opportunity Seized
No more school teaching, no more 1 and a half hours driving each day, no more 'stolen weekends' with marking books and no more stress in trying to get some disinterested children through their GCSE's. She retired from full-time teaching as of yesterday July 10th.
